THE son of a Haddington couple has been left paralysed after falling in the bedroom of his home in Solihull, near Birmingham.

Rob Lamb, 58, whose parents Doris and Billy live on Haddington’s Riverside Drive, fainted due to low blood pressure and then fell to the floor, fracturing bones in his neck and causing a severe spinal cord injury, which has left him paralysed from the chest down.

The dad of four received intensive care in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he underwent surgery.

He is now in a rehabilitation centre in Oswestry, where he is expected to stay until February.

Gavin, Rob’s son, said: “We used to go up and down every Christmas to see dad’s mum and dad, and his schoolfriends and their families.

“Dad consciously made the effort every Christmas because he liked doing that – and Hogmanay up in Edinburgh.”

Rob, a quantity surveyor, was born and brought up in East Linton, and met his wife Julie at Dunbar Grammar School. The couple married and moved south to England when they were in their 20s.

Julie died in 2017.

Rob’s son Mackenzie is a defender with West Bromwich Albion

FC’s youth team and has also represented Scotland at youth level.

The family are raising money to pay for adaptations in the home, such as ramps and door widening, to allow Rob to move around.

Gavin, 26, added: “We’re looking at fundraising because we’re still unsure about dad’s long-term needs so we need to raise as much as we can.”
