A BUSY path beside a sports centre will be improved as part of an £8,000 scheme.

The path next to Hallhill Sports Centre is used on a daily basis by people going to school, shops or the sports centre.

Now, it will be improved thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Spaces for People programme.

Work is due to be carried out shortly before Christmas and will be completed for youngsters returning to school in the new year.

Councillor Norman Hampshire, who represents the Dunbar and East Linton ward, said: “This particular path, which runs alongside Hallhill rugby pitch and running track and the all-weather pitch, is narrow at both ends, with an electrical distribution box and sets of gates.

“The Spaces for People funding will enable the distribution box to be re-sited and so provide a wider and much safer route to school for children and families.

“The improved route will be available to use at the start of the school term in January 2021.”
