A procession of cars set out to visit each Glasgow hospital today to send a loud message that NHS staff are not done fighting for a pay increase.

NHS workers in cars set out from Gartnavel General Hospital just after 11am today.

With cars covered in rainbow balloons and banners demanding fair pay, they hope to have their demands a 15% pay increase heard.

From Gartnavel the group took a route passing Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital before heading towards Ayrshire.

One of the organisers, Brenda Eadie, said: "They deserve to be recognised for the job that they are doing.

"They deserve to be paid for the job that they are doing."

She explains nurses have been left exhausted from the workload during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

"There are so many workers off either with Covid, or exhaustion or PTSD - some people think nurses and healthcare staff can cope with anything.

"But sometimes we see these horrific and really traumatic things. We are just humans, we are human."

She hopes the procession will remind workers they are still fighting for their recognition.
