WORKING at Asda is proving a family affair, with four members of the same family employed at the Dunbar supermarket.

Section leader Denise Hitchcock, 40, works alongside her sister Joanne Turnbull and her two sons, Ryan and Alex Hitchcock; Alex is the most recent family member to join the team.

However, the connection does not stop there, as Denise’s husband Michael is also an Asda colleague and works in The Jewel store, Edinburgh.

Denise started at Asda Derby 17 years ago before moving to Asda Dunbar 12 years ago; she now works in the ambient section.

She said: “It’s really nice working alongside Ryan – most of the time!

“Sometimes we have disagreements, but it definitely is all part of the fun.

“He works in the warehouse, so with me being on the ambient section I do see him quite a lot.

“He’s a really good worker all round, and I’m really proud of him.

“As for my sister Joanne, we look nothing alike, but everyone says we sound the same. Customers say they can’t tell us apart when we are talking!

“It’s really nice having my sister work alongside me. It’s so good to have someone you can go to if you need a chat.”

Deen Rasul, store manager, enjoyed working alongside Denise, Joanne, 49, Ryan, 19, and 17-year-old Alex. He said: “Although it’s not uncommon to have members of the same family working within our Asda family, it’s fairly unique to have so many working together at the same time.

“Despite being from the same family Jo, Denise and Ryan are all very much their own people with their own personalities and all play a crucial role in our store team.

“I look forward to working with Alex now too!”
