TRANENT Amateur Swimming Club’s latest fundraising venture has caused the club to go a bit ‘loony’.

On December 5, a group of the club’s members will be braving the chilly winter weather and embarking on a loony dook in East Lothian’s coastal waters.

A loony dook typically takes place on New Year’s Day and sees members of the public take a dip in freezing cold waters, such as the Firth of Forth. Some people take part in swimming gear and others wear fancy dress, which is what the swimming club will be doing.

The club had four options for fancy dress – Christmas, animals, superheroes and ballet dancers – and asked members of the public to suggest a fifth, with a Where’s Wally theme being chosen now added to the selection.

The public will then decide what theme of fancy dress the club will use.

Rather than donate to the club, for example through an online fundraising page, people will sponsor their preferred fancy dress option.

The option with the highest donations will be selected.

More information and details of the loony dook will be released soon.
