A MAN forced his mother to barricade herself in a bedroom during a drunken rant at her Dunbar home earlier this year.

Riley McKenna shouted and swore at the terrified woman before making threats to harm himself during the incident at a house on the town’s Woodbush Place.

McKenna, 26, told his mother she should “hang herself” before she had to run to a nearby bedroom and push a chest of drawers against the door to protect herself from her rampaging son.

Concerned neighbours overheard the commotion and called the police.

McKenna appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his mother in September this year.

Sheriff Alistair Noble was told that, during the incident, McKenna threatened to smash the family TV, which forced his mother to grab the set and run to her bedroom for safety.

McKenna, of Edinburgh, returned to the dock last Thursday, where the sheriff ordered him to be placed on an offenders’ supervision order to monitor his behaviour over the next 12 months.

McKenna admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats towards his mother at a property in Dunbar on September 16.
