A CASE of coronavirus has been reported from Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School in Tranent, its first since the start of the pandemic.

Parents and carers were alerted to the news this morning (Tuesday).

They were told that someone “within the school” had tested positive, due to patient confidentiality it is unclear whether the case is a pupil or member of staff.

Children who have been in direct contact with the confirmed case have been contacted and will be staying at home for the next 14 days.

The school remains open as normal.

Parents were also told that if their child has not been contacted they should continue to attend school as normal if they remain well.

It is the second case reported at a school in the county after someone at Dunbar Primary School’s nursery tested positive yesterday (Monday).

The school becomes the ninth primary school in East Lothian to record a positive test of coronavirus.

Law Primary School in North Berwick, Preston Tower Primary School in Prestonpans and Haddington, Wallyford, Pencaitland, Stoneyhill, Burgh and Gullane Primary Schools have all also recorded positive cases.

It is the second school in Tranent to record a positive test, Ross High School has also previously reported a positive tests as has Knox Academy, Musselburgh Grammar and North Berwick and Preston Lodge High Schools.

The symptoms of coronavirus are a new continuous cough, a high temperature and/or a loss of or change in taste or smell.
