POPPIES and collection tins have been distributed throughout Haddington by hard-working secondary school pupils.

For the last six years, youngsters at Knox Academy have been acting as Poppyscotland’s fundraisers around Remembrance Day.

Again, youngsters at the school have put collection tins and poppies at businesses throughout the town.

Unfortunately, this year, the youngsters are unable to do their annual collection in the town’s Tesco store due to coronavirus restrictions.

Robert Flood, faculty head (social subjects) at the Haddington secondary school, said: “We started this about six years ago and we are still the only school in Scotland that does it. It is a really nice thing to do and I am very happy that we support that.

“I’ve got a group of about 25 S6 pupils to be part of it and they obviously see it as something worthwhile as well.”

The school has also been unable to host its traditional veterans’ coffee morning due to the global pandemic.

Last year, the youngsters collected about £5,000 for the charity, which is committed to supporting the Armed Forces community in Scotland.
