TRADERS on North Berwick High Street battled it out to have the best window display in recognition of World Polio Day.
North Berwick Rotary Club hosted the competition as part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of polio and eradicate it from the last two countries where it remains endemic, and keep the others polio free.
Dozens of local businesses on High Street took part, placing a poster, created by students at North Berwick High School, and decorating their windows with purple items.
The competition ran from October 19 to 24, the week of World Polio Day.
North Berwick Rotary Club members Liz Martin and Debbie Renton judged all of the entries, with Gillian O’Brien from L’argenette jewellery design emerging victorious.
Rotary has helped reduce polio cases by more than 99.9 per cent.
A spokesman for North Berwick Rotary Club added: “If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years polio could paralyse as many as 200,000 children each year. That is why it is critical to keep the focus.”
