A DUNBAR man has been banned from driving and will be electronically tagged after he was caught behind the wheel while over the drink-drive limit.

James McLeod, of Writers Court, drove at excessive speeds and negotiated a roundabout at high speed during an incident in Dalkeith last month.

McLeod was also found to be close to twice the legal drink-drive limit when he was pulled over by police.

The 21-year-old offender appeared in front of Sheriff John Cook at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday, where he admitted two offences.

He pleaded guilty to an amended charge of careless driving, reduced from a dangerous driving charge, of driving at excessive speeds and swerving about the road at Dalkeith’s High Street and Musselburgh Road.

He also pleaded guilty to driving with 42mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath during the same incident on September 12. The legal limit is 22mg.

Sheriff Cook banned McLeod from driving for 12 months and told him that he must sit the extended test before he is allowed to get back on the road.

McLeod was also placed on a supervision order for 18 months and he must wear an electronic tag and remain within his home address between 7pm and 7am for the next 80 days.
