A MEMBER of Ross High Rugby Club has celebrated its 50th anniversary by releasing a book about the club’s history – and is donating the profits to charity.

Rob Brown is the club’s 1st XV team manager, however, his involvement stems back his whole adult life.

Rob stopped his involvement with Ross High in 2004 but was drawn back in recent years by the sense of community and level of commitment by everyone involved.

Work started on the book, ‘Mon The Ross, at the beginning of 2018.

He realised the club’s 50th anniversary season (the upcoming 2020/21 season) was not far away and there was time to research and produce a history of the club.

Work involved looking through club archives and old newspaper articles through several trips to the John Gray Centre in Haddington, as well as interviewing key contributors.

Rob said: “It charts our journey from the formative years and then our fluctuating fortunes through the league structures.”

The journey is broken up by different features, such as the club’s relationship with its Welsh partner club Markham, the development of the clubhouse, its youth section, and pen portraits of notable individuals.

Rob added: “The aim is to produce a definitive record of those first 50 years in a way that people find engaging, informative and entertaining.”

Rob will not be making any profit from the book, with all profits being donated to the Walk With Scott Foundation.

The charity was founded by the late Scott Glynn, who was Ross High’s longest serving president.

The book is only available at Veermans in Tranent, Thomsons of Tranent, Kesley’s Bookshop in Haddington and the Ross High RFC clubhouse. Alternatively, contact Rob through Facebook or email him at rob.brown2530@gmail.com
