A WHITECRAIG restaurant has launched new takeaway dishes for pooches to help raise funds for the Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home amidst the Covid-19 crisis.

The Mercat Grill is also collecting food for East Lothian Foodbank from delivery customers and plans to match them to help those in need.

Although the restaurant is closed for dining, its full menu, plus a new Sunday morning Breakfast Box, is being offered on a takeaway basis for collection or delivery.

On the food for Fido front, there’s two new dishes available when owners order from the takeaway menu, with a choice of homemade chicken or beef stew.

To wash it down, there’s also Snuffles dog beer available.

All profits go to Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home to help support its work at this challenging time.

Restaurant owner Graham Blaikie said: “After closing our doors to diners on October 9, our takeaway service is back on the menu for our customers.

“We just want to keep on trading to the best of our ability in order to keep our business ticking over and retain our staff through these tough times.

“We also still really want to make a difference to local charities and, as we’ve not been able to hold any of our doggy events since lockdown started, we wanted to help support the Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home through this initiative.

“Our aim will be to donate around £5 per doggy dish to the charity.

“With our takeaway service, customers can leave donations for the foodbank on their doorstep and, when we deliver their takeaway, we’ll collect these and match any donations made to help those most in need.”

Takeaway timings are: Thursday – deliveries 4-8pm; Friday – deliveries 4-9pm; Saturday – deliveries 4-9pm; Sunday – collection of Breakfast Box 9-11.15am and deliveries 1-7pm.
