A SECOND case of coronavirus has been confirmed at Wallyford Primary School this afternoon (Wednesday).

News of the school’s first case was shared last week and alongside Pencaitland Primary School marked the first village schools to record positive tests.

However in a statement from the school’s headteacher Mhairi Stratton and NHS Lothian today, a second case was confirmed.

Children who have been in direct contact with the confirmed case have been contacted and will be staying at home for the next 14 days.

Those who have not been contacted were told that they do not need to self isolate.

The school will reopen as normal on Tuesday (October 27) after the half term break.

Children who have not been identified as a close contact should return to school as normal.

This is the third announcement of positive coronavirus cases at a school in East Lothian today.

This morning, ‘small number of people’ were confirmed as having tested positive at North Berwick High School and a case was also reported at Gullane Primary School.

It is the sixth announcement in the past week.

Positive tests were also recorded at five of the county’s six high schools as well as Haddington, Preston Tower and Pencaitland Primary Schools and St Mary’s Nursery in Haddington.
