LONG-DELAYED roadworks have been pushed back again.

Tranent’s Church Street was closed in March for a £420,000 upgrade of the gas network. However, SGN, which was carrying out the scheme, had to halt the work due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was due to resume tomorrow (Friday) but has now been delayed till Monday.

A spokesman for SGN said it had not been possible “to implement the road closure for Friday”.

He said: “We have been assured that this will not impact on the reopening of Sanderson’s Wynd PS for the schools going back the following Tuesday.

“I must apologise for the short notice and thank you for your support and understanding during this time.”

The street links Tranent’s High Street and the Bankton Junction of the A1.

During the works, Church Street will be closed between New Street and High Street for about four to five weeks. Access to Coal Neuk, Coal Neuk Court, Gardiner’s Place, The Heugh, Wallace Place, New Street, Elder Street and Elder Court will be maintained via Bridge Street.
