A SECTION of East Lothian's busiest road will be closed for two nights next week.

Next Thursday and Friday (October 22 and 23), the eastbound (southbound) carriageway of the A1 between the Oaktree and Abbotsview junctions at Haddington will be closed from 8pm to 6am on both nights.

It follows recent resurfacing works between the Bankton and Abbotsview junctions, which covers the section of the A1 from Tranent to Haddington, and will see traffic counting loops reinstated, which provide data on traffic flows.

During construction hours, a signed diversion route will be in place which takes people off the A1 at Oaktree and then sees them travel on the A199 through Haddington before rejoining the A1 at Abbotsview junction, adding an extra two miles to journeys.

Work is being carried out by BEAR Scotland and has been planned in consultation with East Lothian Council and the emergency services.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These works will take place overnight to minimise disruption.

“We thank motorists and the local communities for the patience during these works.”
