MAJOR gas replacement works take place on a Prestonpans street from Monday.

The works on East Loan will run for about 10 weeks.

They are being carried out by SGN and will see the gas network upgraded.

Among the work being carried out, existing gas mains will be replaced with new plastic pipe.

More than 600 metres of metallic mains will be replaced.

As well as East Loan, work will also be carried out on Harlaw Road, which will be closed between Kirk Street and High Street.

SGN said: “Our essential work will ensure the local community receives a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

“We’re working closely with the Scottish Government to make sure we carry out our project in line with all current coronavirus safety guidance.

“We wish to assure you that work will progress as quickly as possible and we’ll be doing everything we can to limit delays and disruption.

“We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our communities from the virus. Our colleagues will be keeping to social distancing guidelines and we’d ask communities to keep their distance too.”
