MUSSELBURGH Rugby Club has confirmed that someone who trained at its grounds last week has tested positive for coronavirus.

It is the first sports club in East Lothian to announce news of a positive case of coronavirus.

In a statement today (Wednesday) the club said: “We have been informed that a person who was training at Stoneyhill on Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th September has tested positive for Covid-19.

“We respect their right to privacy, therefore we will not be confirming any personal details and wish them a speedy recovery.”

As a result, and following Scottish Rugby guidance, all facilities at the clubhouse are temporarily closed and all rugby training sessions have temporarily been suspended with immediate effect.

A full review of the club’s risk assessments will be carried out and it has said it will “take any appropriate action in line with local public health guidance”.

The statement continued: “These actions are all part of the normal procedures taken by any rugby club faced with a similar situation and we wish to assure all our members that we have rigorously followed all the relevant, safety guidelines.

“Scottish Rugby have also been alerted to the situation and the club will assist test and protect teams with contact tracing if required.

“All those affected by this situation fully understand their requirement to stay at home and to self-isolate for the next 14 days which is in line with Scottish Government guidance.

“If any player, parent/carer or club member have any concerns regarding this development, please do not hesitate to contact the club’s Covid-19 safety coordinator at musselburghrfc.secretary@btinternet.com”

People will be informed when the clubhouse can reopen and when training sessions can safely resume.

Musselburgh Rugby Club is due to have its first game of the new season next month at home against Edinburgh Accies on October 31.
