FAST-food giant McDonald’s iconic golden arches could soon be visible at Gladsmuir.

The burger chain has been given the green light by East Lothian Council for signs to be put in place at the former Raceland site, near Gladsmuir.

Plans were given the go-ahead for the former go-karting centre, located north of Gladsmuir Junction on the A1, to be turned into a roadside service station last year.

Those plans continue to move forward, with McDonald’s now having three applications approved for signs to highlight the fast food chain’s presence.

Raceland closed its doors at the beginning of 2018, with Euro Garages Ltd being given permission to transform the site 12 months later.

Drawings show plans for two drive-thru restaurants, as well as a drive-thru coffee shop and a petrol station, with shop.

When the proposals were approved, it was claimed that more than 200 jobs could be created on the site.

Previous plans also showed a totem-pole-style sign, which featured logos for McDonald’s, Greggs, Subway, Starbucks and KFC.

But East Lothian Council stressed that the businesses listed in the image could change.

In March, a spokeswoman for KFC confirmed they had plans to open in East Lothian and said: “We’ll be winging our way to East Lothian early next year – watch this space!”

The opening of McDonald’s would be the second branch in the county, with one already in place off the A1 at Dunbar.
