BROKEN glass has been found among the bark chippings at a popular playpark.

Problems with anti-social behaviour at the playpark, off Lochend Road, have repeatedly been raised.

Police described the park as “one of the main hotspots for underage drinking”.

Constable Gavin Ross, community officer for Dunbar and East Linton, said police spoke to youngsters in the area and highlighted the potential for young children getting cut from broken glass left behind.

He described it as “completely unacceptable” and said: “In the past, we have spoken to the youths and they have been very receptive when it has been pointed it out.

“We have had issues in the past with little kids being cut with glass and the youths do understand that and don’t return.

“It is a matter of making sure they do understand the message.

“They would not want it happening to their little brother or sister.”

Despite the issue, the officer was pleased to say the number of youth-related anti-social behaviour calls over recent months was low.

Traditionally, that can be put down to families being on holiday but this year coronavirus-related restrictions has been highlighted as a potential reason.

PC Ross said: “From experience, at this time of year, with people being back at school and with the nights drawing in a little bit, it has given a bit of a cover of darkness.”
