An outbreak of coronavirus at Glasgow University has contributed to the highest number of cases reported in a single day.

Nicola Sturgeon revealed there had been 486 new cases. She said it was the highest ever daily figure but was in part due to more testing being done than in the Spring.

The highest number was in Greater Glasgow where 224 cases were reported.

The First Minister said that was due to a "significant outbreak" at Glasgow University.

The First Minister asked students living in halls to follow the rules.

Ms Sturgeon said: “It’s important for students to be back at college and university. But this is not the fault of students.”

She added: “We have tough rules in place.

“If we need to strengthen guidance we will, we will not hesitate with further and higher education too.

“I know the majority will be doing the right things.

It is important to underline for students in halls if you are asked to self isolate it’s really important you follow that advice.

“Please follow the rules.”
