A LACK of customers at the reopened cafe in the Hollies Day Centre in Musselburgh has led to a stark warning from its concerned manager.

Liz Shannon made a heartfelt plea to residents, saying: “Use us or lose us”.

The public cafe and hairdressers at the High Street centre for older people resumed business on August 31 as Covid-19 restrictions eased.

Ms Shannon said that the two facilities were open from Monday to Wednesday, 10am-3pm.

She said: “To allow for social distancing, the cafe is now housed in the large hall. They are serving full breakfasts, homemade soup prepared daily, along with hot and cold filled rolls, toasties and home baking. Full lunches are not yet available but if there is enough interest they may do this once a week.”

She added: “Footfall is slow and they need their customers to return in order to keep the doors open. There is a track and trace system in place, hand sanitiser available and, as always, a big Hollies welcome awaits customers.”

She said that it had been a “very long” five months in lockdown.

She added: “We have really missed everybody. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the customers who have returned to the cafe and supported us. At this stage we still cannot open our lunch club until Government guidance allows us to do so.”
