POSITIVE tests for coronavirus have been recorded at two schools in East Lothian.

Both Knox Academy in Haddington and Preston Lodge High School in Prestonpans have recorded the positive tests.

A statement from NHS Lothian on Preston Lodge said: "Contract tracing is being carried out at Preston Lodge High School.

"Enhanced cleaning measures are already in place in schools in line with national guidance.

"The school remains open."

Gavin Clark, headteacher at Preston Lodge, posted a message on the school's website today.

He said: "We are aware of a very small number of people in the school who have tested positive for Covid-19.

"We have been working closely with NHS Lothian Health Protection Team and following all national guidance.

"Investigations are under way to establish if there is any connection between them and the situation is being closely monitored.

"The tracking process around the first identified case is now complete and any close contacts have been advised to self-isolate.

"The Health Protection Team has since been made aware of another positive result and investigation work is ongoing. The school remains open and you will be updated.

"If you have any concerns in the meantime, or if you need to book a Covid-19 test because your child has developed symptoms (high temperature, a new continuous cough and/or a loss or change in sense of smell or taste) please visit the NHS Inform website nhsinform.scot or for non-clinical advice call 0800 028 2816.

"Remember to stay at home if anyone in the household has symptoms of Covid-19."

Meanwhile, parents and carers were alerted to the positive result at Knox Academy by Sue Cook, headteacher, and NHS Lothian this afternoon (Tuesday).

It is unclear whether it is a pupil or a member of staff who has tested positive at Knox Academy but the Courier has asked for clarification.

The message from the headteacher and NHS Lothian reads: “We are aware of someone in the school who has tested positive for Covid-19.

“We have been working closely with NHS Lothian Health Protection Team and following all national guidance.

“The tracking process is now complete and if you have not been contacted, your child should attend school tomorrow as normal.

“If you have any concerns in the meantime, or if you need to book a Covid-19 test because your child has developed symptoms (high temperature, a new continuous cough and/or a loss or change in sense of smell or taste) please visit the NHS Inform website nhsinform.scot or for non-clinical advice call 0800 028 2816.

“Remember to stay at home if anyone in the household has symptoms of Covid-19.”

The most common symptoms of coronavirus include a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, taste or smell.

Last month, a pupil at Preston Tower Primary School in Prestonpans tested positive for coronavirus.

At that time, no details of the age of the pupil or what class they were in at the school were released.
