Dozens of protestors gathered outside a house in Haddington's Nungate this evening to demand the removal of a convicted sex offender from their street.

About 40 residents chanted and held up a banner demanding the removal of the man who has been jailed a number of times for breaching an order to stay away from children.

Two police officers were in attendance at the 'peaceful protest' which organisers have pledged to hold every Friday evening until the man is moved out of Seggarsdean Crescent.

Anger over the decision to house the offender on the street turned to action when it was revealed he was living just yards from a new playpark which officially opened over the summer.

One of the organisers Helen Nelson said next Friday the protestors planned to march through the Nungate ahead of gathering outside the house to draw a bigger crowd.
