NORTH Berwick Golf Club is teeing off applications for its community fund, which will give local organisations and groups a chance to receive financial support.

The club set up the North Berwick Golf Club Community Fund in 2016 to support the local economy and develop strong relationships with organisations in the town.

Since then, the club, which was founded in 1832, has received 30 applications for funding and helped 21 North Berwick organisations with more than £17,500 of support.

The club has annually contributed £10,000 to the fund; however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s amount is limited to £2,000.

Only those in the EH39 postcode area can apply for an award.

This year, awards to any one organisation will not be more than £1,000. However, awards can be made for up to three years.

The Firth of Forth Lobster Hatchery, North Berwick Stroke Club, North Berwick Youth Project, East Lothian Yacht Club, Coastal Communities Museum, Christmas lights appeal, Law Primary School, North Berwick Scout Group and North Berwick PTA have all benefited from the fund in the past three years.

A spokesman for North Berwick Golf Club said: “Given the current climate, the club would like more than ever to continue to support local organisations.

“Having the ability to improve the lives of others within the local community is indeed a privilege and one that comes with its own sense of obligation.

“For many local organisations, small donations can make a startling difference to their ability to serve the community and continue the excellent work they do.

“We believe that, if we can in some way benefit local organisations, it can help cement their future helping the community.

“One of our overarching aims is to build a lasting legacy in the local area.”

The closing date for applications is October 30.
