A PRESTONPANS dad who assaulted a man who had shouted at his five-year-old son has been fined.

Michael McCaig lashed out at Pawel Mamrot after he caught the man raising his voice at his young son, who had earlier been shouting and throwing stones outside the man’s home in Tranent.

McCaig, of County Square, repeatedly punched the man to the head during the altercation at Tranent’s Henderson Gardens in July.

Last Wednesday, fiscal Ross Carver told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that Mr Mamrot heard the youngster shouting in the street outside his home before he witnessed the boy “throwing stones”.

Mr Mamrot left his home and chased after the boy at about 3pm on July 26 but was soon confronted by angry father-of-three McCaig.

The fiscal said: “The accused grabbed Mr Mamrot by his t-shirt, struggled with him and then repeatedly punched him on the head.

“Neighbours then intervened by separating the males and 999 was called.”

The victim suffered a bloody nose and grazes to his arm, elbow and wrist during the assault, which was also said to have been filmed by his concerned partner.

Solicitor Peter Winning said that McCaig, 29, had “lost his temper” after claiming he overheard Mr Mamrot calling the boy “a wee b******”.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam fined McCaig £200, plus a victim surcharge of £10.

McCaig pleaded guilty to assaulting Pawel Mamrot by striking him to the head to his injury at Henderson Gardens, Tranent, on July 26.
