A TRANENT business owner has donated £1,000 to a community radio station.

George Thomson, from Thomson’s of Tranent, wanted to say thanks to DJ and avid fundraiser Davie Martin for all of his hard work in the community.

George and his wife Susan, a Post Office worker, decided that they wanted to give a donation to something Davie was passionate about and so gave £1,000 to Radio Saltire, where Davie is a presenter.

Radio Saltire is based on the town’s Civic Square.

Davie told them: “I can’t thank you both enough for your generosity and for giving back to the community and recognising Radio Saltire as a valued service.

“This will go a long way to help us continue to deliver a great service throughout East Lothian and beyond. On behalf of all the volunteers at Radio Saltire and the community of East Lothian, thank you both so much.”

During lockdown, Davie helped donate hundreds of items to local hospitals and healthcare facilities, an initiative he started after being approached by a nurse from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

He also collected disposable car seat covers, hand sanitiser and hand wash for St Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh.

George also gave £500 to Tranent Belters.

Davie added: “It’s amazing, especially during these tough times.

“It’s great to see local businesses giving back to the community.”
