A FUN challenge has been set in a bid to ensure people are seeing double.

Kevin MacIver took a photograph of his twin daughters Anya and Orla, 8, beside the gateway sign entering Dunbar from the west.

Now, he is trying to encourage other twins to have photos of themselves taken at similar road signs in Dunbar’s twin towns of Lignieres, France, and Martinez in California, USA.

The Brunstfield Crescent resident said: “I was just out running one day and noticed the signs.

“I think I was trying to distract myself from how tired I was and saw the twin town sign.

“It had never clicked before about twin town and twins.

“We were then walking the dog that night and I said to the girls: ‘How do you fancy getting a picture done and we will see if anybody picks it up and see what happens?’”

Dunbar has been twinned with Lignieres, just over 40 kilometres east of Chateauroux in central France, since 1994, while a link with Martinez goes back to 1973.

Dunbar-born John Muir, the father of the national park system in USA, lived in Martinez.

Mr MacIver, who has lived in Dunbar for six years, posted the picture of his daughters, Dunbar Primary School pupils, on social media.

The image was shared on Twitter and has been retweeted more than 70 times.

The IT manager with RBS said the US Consulate was among those sharing it.

Mr MacIver said: “John McMillan [East Lothian’s Provost] got back to me on the same night and sent me a message saying it was a nice idea.”
