A MUSSELBURGH man who pushed a police officer during a struggle at his home has been warned about his future behaviour.

Jamie McPherson was at home with his parents and sister in November last year when he began shouting and swearing and was asked to leave the property.

Police were contacted and, after attending, an officer made his way inside after hearing “a commotion”.

McPherson challenged the constable during the incident at the town’s Park Lane. The 20-year-old then “pushed the officer to the chest” with both hands.

The builder’s clerk was handcuffed and arrested and taken to Dalkeith Police Station.

On Monday, Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard that McPherson was suffering from mental health problems that day and he “deeply regrets his behaviour” towards the police.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam told McPherson: “In all the circumstances, you will simply be admonished, but you won’t get the same leniency the next time.”

McPherson pleaded guilty to an amended charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and pushing a police officer on the body at Park Lane, Musselburgh, on November 26 last year.
