A PRESTON Tower Primary School pupil has tested positive for Covid-19.

A letter was sent out to parents and carers, who were also contacted by text message, regarding the diagnosis today (Wednesday).

No details of the age of the pupil or what class they are in at the Prestonpans primary school have been released.

A spokesman for East Lothian Council acknowledged it was “a worrying time for families”.

He said: “That’s why we are working with NHS Lothian’s health protection team and will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow all national guidance and the health advice provided.

“Children who have been in direct contact with the confirmed case have been contacted and will be staying at home for 14 days.

“The school remains open, in line with expert public health advice.

“Parents are being advised that, if their child has not been contacted, they should continue to attend school if they remain well.

“As with all our schools, enhanced cleaning procedures are in place and will continue to be adhered to.”

Anyone who has concerns should call the national Covid-19 helpline – 0800 111 4000 – or go to nhsinform.scot
