NORTH Berwick’s RNLI crew was called out this afternoon (Friday) but it was not to rescue a person… but an inflatable unicorn.

The lifeboat launched at about 3.35pm and was guided to the inflatable by the town’s Coastguard team.

A spokesman for the RNLI crew said: “The crew recovered an inflatable unicorn and started a search of the surrounding water whilst enquiries were made on shore.

“It was soon established that no-one had been on the inflatable when it had been blown out to sea by the strong offshore wind.

“Inflatables can be great fun when they’re used safely, however they are not designed for use at the beach.

“If you do happen to let your inflatable drift unattended out to sea, call the coastguard so that it can be confirmed that no-one is in danger.

“In any coastal emergency call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
