NEW rules have come in in relation to hospitality businesses, which means that it is now mandatory to take contact details from those entering the premises.

This is to aid the Test and Protect scheme, so that outbreaks of Covid-19 can be dealt with swiftly and accurately.

I am glad that updated guidance has been provided to restaurants, cafes, pubs and hotels so that they are aware of exactly what is expected of them in order to keep the public safe. It is crucial that we have strong safety measures in place, and I would encourage all my constituents to use local businesses which value your health and follow the guidance.

In the event of an outbreak, it is important that we can contact those who are potentially affected, and I welcome the announcement from the Scottish Government which has made collecting these details compulsory for hospitality businesses. I thank those businesses who are already doing this, and who are going above and beyond to put responsible measures in place.

I have contacted a large amount of local businesses offering my support and welcoming discussions about how we can best support our various industries in the constituency as we re-emerge from lockdown. I would be interested to hear from any local business owners who would like to provide feedback on how they are finding the path out of lockdown, or who need support. If you have a local business then I would be happy to hear from you at colin.beattie.msp@parliament.scot

If you would like to go on a holiday this year, why not consider a staycation in Scotland? Going abroad currently can be a risk, given that the travel advice can change on a daily basis depending on transmission rates in other countries. I know that many people are interested in having a break after the last few difficult months. Holidaying in Scotland has many benefits, including supporting our economy and tourism sector, thus protecting Scottish jobs. Why not see what our beautiful country has to offer?
