A CHARITY has confirmed it will reopen its two shops in East Lothian tomorrow (Friday).

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) lost £500,000 per month in income following the closure of the charity’s 45 shops and postponement of fundraising events during lockdown.

Now, the shops in Haddington and Dunbar are getting ready to open once again.

However, the shopping experience will be slightly different for people visiting the stores.

Carole Edmondson, head of retail at CHSS, said: “We have significant safety measures in place to protect customers, volunteers and staff, and have introduced a new system for receiving and handling all our donations.

“All stock will be quarantined to reduce the risk of contamination and stock will be carefully dated with sorting areas in store to allow a safe processing system. We are installing cough screens, hand sanitising stations and limiting the amount of people allowed in the shop at any one time.

“Masks will be provided for all staff and volunteers and we will be offering contactless payments and cash.”
