EAST Lothian Council has named Lesley Brown as its new head of education and children's services.

Ms Brown is currently the chief operating officer for education with the local authority and will take the place of Fiona Robertson, who moved to a new post with Midlothian Council at the start of the year.

Councillor Shamin Akhtar, cabinet spokesperson for education and children’s services, said: “Lesley has a strong track record and will play a vital leadership role. This is particularly important at a time when East Lothian is one of Scotland’s fastest growing areas, with a continued focus on ensuring all children and young people get the best start in life, enabling them to enjoy being young, and to grow and develop in a safe, supportive environment.

"I would like to congratulate Lesley on her appointment. I look forward to working with her.”

Ms Brown joined East Lothian Council in 2017 from Education Scotland. Her start date for her new role has still to be confirmed.

Monica Patterson, council chief executive, said: "I would like to congratulate Lesley and look forward to working with her as she leads the development of services and partnerships that will enable children and young people in East Lothian to live safe, healthier, more active and independent lives."
