THE funeral unit outside Prestonpans’ Scotmid store could move inside as part of plans for the business.

The High Street supermarket is looking to make changes inside its store, while also increasing the number of spaces in the neighbouring car park.

Proposals for the store and car park are being weighed up by East Lothian Council’s planning department.

A spokeswoman for the business said they had discussed the project with the local community council ahead of submitting the planning application.

She said: “The work being proposed will help improve our offer in the community by improving the store entrance and external appearance of the store and by refitting the store in accordance with our latest branding.

“We also recognise the limitations of the existing car park and propose to make our car park larger and easier to access.

“We also propose to move the funeral unit which is located in the car park into the main building.”

The number of spaces in the car park will nearly double as it increases from 15 to 28.

Some work has already been carried out inside the store, with energy efficient refrigeration cabinets with doors installed.
