A BID to see McDonald’s iconic golden arches at a new restaurant off East Lothian’s busiest road is being weighed up by planners.

Three planning applications have been submitted by the fast food giant to East Lothian Council for the former Raceland site, near Gladsmuir.

The site, north of the A1, already has the go-ahead to be turned into a roadside service station.

The latest set of proposals show McDonald’s would be located beside the B6363, which connects Macmerry and Gladsmuir with Longniddry.

Drawings show a variety of signs to highlight the fast food chain.

Go-kart centre Raceland closed in January 2018, with the plans from Euro Garages Ltd being given the go-ahead by the council’s planning committee just over 12 months later.

The plans show two drive-thru restaurants, as well as a drive-thru coffee shop and a petrol station, with shop.

When plans were approved, it was claimed that more than 200 jobs could be created on the site.

Earlier this spring, further advertising consent plans were lodged by Euro Garages.

Those proposals, which have been approved, included a totem-pole style sign which featured logos for McDonald’s, Greggs, Subway, Starbucks and KFC.

A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council stressed the businesses listed in the image could change.

The latest set of plans show various signs for McDonald’s, which currently has one other restaurant in East Lothian, beside Dunbar’s Asda store.

Separate plans are also being considered for a McDonald’s in the car park at Musselburgh’s Tesco store.

Meanwhile, Greggs has branches in Haddington, Musselburgh, North Berwick, Prestonpans and Tranent.

Subway can be found in Haddington and Musselburgh, while Starbucks and KFC are yet to open a branch in the county.
