PLAYPARKS throughout Haddington could be in line for a revamp if a new group is founded.

A modern playpark between Seggarsdean Court and St Martin’s Place was completed towards the end of last month.

The £60,000 scheme included input from youngsters in the area, who were able to choose from two designs for the park.

Jan Wilson, chairwoman of the town’s community council, was keen to see the park act as an inspiration for improving other playparks in the town.

She said: “The park in Neilson Park is very good but it could still be upgraded yet again.

“It is quite a number of years since it was done.”

A potential Friends of Haddington Playparks group could look at parks throughout the town, such as those at Riverside Drive and Davidson Terrace.

Mrs Wilson was keen to see the group approach Haddington and Lammermuir Area Partnership (HALAP), as well as other organisations, as potential funding sources for any revamps.

She encouraged fellow community councillors to think about the potential group ahead of their next meeting.

Ward councillor Shamin Akhtar highlighted that there had been similar groups set up in Ormiston and Pencaitland with great success.

The local authority’s spokeswoman for education and children’s wellbeing vowed to liaise with those groups to see if they could offer any advice.

She offered to help in “any way I can” and said: “We have got lots of lovely spaces around Haddington.”
