HUNDREDS of people welcomed Haddington Farmers’ Market back to the town.

As many as 700 people are thought to have visited the town’s Court Street for the market, which took place on its traditional last Saturday of the month last month for the first time since February.

A total of 18 stalls lined the footpath outside the former court building, with social distancing in effect.

A one-way system, which was used at a trial market on July 11, remained in place, with a strict number of how many people were allowed within the market at any one time.

Val Shields, chairperson of the market, was delighted to say the event had gone well, with the market back again on August 29.

She said: “At one point, I looked down the street and saw the queue was going down past The Plough.

“People were waiting in the queue and the rain does not help but people still came out, which is fantastic.

“The Rotary Club are amazing as well and we could not do it without them doing the marshalling.”
