LIGHTS beside the DunBear sculpture have been vandalised.

The steel sculpture, which features a bear standing on its hind legs and is located just off the A1, near the Spott Roundabout on the edge of Dunbar, was unveiled last December.

A post on social media revealed that lights next to the sculpture, which measures 16 feet in height, had been damaged.

It reads: “We are conscious that a number of lights have been deliberately damaged at the DunBear sculpture and thanks to those for reporting this to us.

“We have an engineer out looking at this.

“The sculpture is very much part of the community and we would be grateful if you see anyone damaging it that this is reported to the police.”

The artwork was created by Andy Scott, the same man behind The Kelpies, and is a tribute to Dunbar-born John Muir, who would go on to become a key figure in the formation of the US national parks.
