AN EAST Lothian-based soil expert is looking forward to working with farmers in his new role.

Fergus Scougal has been appointed agronomist for East Lothian and the Borders by the company Agrovista.

The 28-year-old completed a degree in agriculture at SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) and also has on-farm experience via a range of practical roles.

Following graduation, Fergus joined Agrii, where he built expertise in precision farming, as well as row crop agronomy.

He now joins Agrovista as a fully qualified agronomist.

The rugby and horse riding enthusiast, who lives at Ballencrieff, said: “My aim is to be a good agronomist with honest values by doing the best job that I can for the farmer.

“This is how I want to do business – building long-lasting relationships with my customers. I’m looking forward to working for Agrovista as the company shares those values.

“The team is farmer-focused and offers solutions that are practical, not unrealistic.

“I’m not from a farming background but agriculture has long been my interest, particularly the technical side of agronomy.”
