LONGNIDDRY Gala was supposed to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year but, due to the coronavirus pandemic, instead hosted a gold-themed celebration of a different kind.
The gala committee held a children’s disco in February but the committee still wanted to do something to remember the occasion so that it did not pass without a mention.
Instead of its traditional celebrations, a competition was held which encouraged village residents to decorate their window, or more, with anything golden. A number of entries were submitted from people all over the village.
First place went to Meg Anderson of Douglas Road; second to Elizabeth Anderson-Whymark of Dean Road; and third to Joanne Breckenridge of John Knox Road.
To support local businesses, all of the winners were given East Lothian gift cards.
Suzanne Low, Longniddry Gala committee member, said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part with golden decor – very good effort, I think you’ll agree.”
The committee hopes to celebrate the anniversary when possible.
