TWO Tranent-based charities have received a donation thanks to the efforts of one local business.

Every Sunday, Ideal Flooring Solutions is holding a carpet and vinyl clearance sale between noon and 4pm on the town’s Bridge Street.

The business, based on Musselburgh High Street, has decided to donate profits from the sale to Tranent Belters and East Lothian Foodbank, based on Tranent’s Civic Square.

The sale, which started on Sunday and is going to last for about six weeks, allowed for both charities to receive cheques of £200 on Monday.

The sale is an ongoing initiative, helping some East Lothian charities during one six-week block and, after a four-week break, it aims to help other local charities.

This is because there is only enough stock for that amount of time and a four-week break allows sale stock to be replenished.

Alex Brown, 56, owner of Ideal Flooring Solutions, said that he had always been eager to raise money to help others, having completed several events for charity such as marathons, a skydive and half marathons in the past.

As well as helping local charities, he said he was also helping those who were struggling financially or on low incomes to get cheap carpets.

Alex, who lives in Musselburgh, said: “This time I thought that the charities that needed help the most were the foodbank and Tranent Belters.

“I’ve been doing charitable things for 25 years. It’s just a thing that I do, it’s in my blood.

“If I can give back I do.

“I enjoy helping people, I always have and I always will.

“It was a no-brainer to help these two causes. They both do fantastic work for the community.”

He added that while some people found enjoyment through sport, he enjoyed helping charities, saying he would “rather give back”.

The amount that is raised, however, depends on how well the sale goes, meaning the amount donated could change every week.

“For this sale we are definitely helping these charities,” he said. “I’m definitely considering other charities for the other sales. I would love to help everybody, I want to be able to help them all but I’m going to try and help as many as I can.”
