NORTH Berwick residents and a county farm that grows Asian vegetables feature in the new series of a Scottish food and drink show tonight (Thursday).

Chef Nick Nairn, who runs four restaurants, two cookery schools and has one Michelin star, and presenter Dougie Vipond, of Landward and Sportscene, visited East Lothian as part of the second series of their TV show ‘The Great Food Guys’.

The cooking show celebrates Scotland’s food and drink in the pair’s Aberdeenshire kitchen, joined by some celebrity guests, inspired by their road trip across Scotland.

Dougie said: “We are back at our countryside kitchen to cook some great food inspired by our road trips.”

The first show in the eight part series airs tonight (Thursday) at 8pm on BBC Scotland and will also be shown on Saturday (July 11) at 11.30am on BBC One.

Tonight’s show, recorded before lockdown restrictions began, sees the pair joined by Kaori Simpson, an award-winning chef from Harajuku Kitchen in Edinburgh, and Greg McHugh, an actor of Gary Tank Commander and The A Word fame, who will bring along his choice of craft beer to accompany the food.

On the menu is an Asian fusion consisting of salt chilli squid with a Vietnamese dipping sauce, inspired by their trip last April to a farm in East Lothian that grows Asian vegetables, such as pak choi.

The name of the farm is not known and was not mentioned when the clips were originally shown on Landward last year.

The show also consists of sample sessions filmed last year while out on the road with the Landward van.

People in North Berwick enjoyed some food samples around the harbour area last May along with people in Moffat, found in Dumfries and Galloway.

Upcoming guests in the show include crime writer Val McDermid, Still Game star Jane McCarry, comedian farmer Jim Smith, TV presenter JJ Chalmers, Call the Midwife star Laura Main, actor and comedian Sanjeev Kohli and weather presenter Judith Ralston.
