A PART-TIME dentist from Musselburgh, who became an online sensation with her weekly songs following the ‘Clap for Carers’ tribute each Thursday evening has now finished her performances.

Lorraine McBrearty is set to return to her job at the town’s Duncan Smith Dental Practice as the Covid-19 lockdown eases.

She brought joy to scores of people with her weekly repertoire, which included You’ll Never Walk Alone – the UK top single featuring Captain Tom Moore, Michael Ball and the NHS Voices Of Care Choir, which is raising funds for the NHS.

Armed with a portable PA system, Lorraine, who is also a family worker at Northesk Church, sang outside her flat on Bridge Street after the ‘Clap for Carers’ at 8pm.

Lorraine sings in the band Back ‘n’ Blue at the weekend.

She said: “That’s me finished the Thursday night songs now. I performed 10 weeks of songs and am due to go back to work soon. I’ve really enjoyed it and have had lots of lovely feedback.”

She added: “I’ve done a couple of live shows on Facebook since, some for charity. One was for ‘Stars In Their Homes Lockdown Entertainment’, which is raising funds for Marie Curie, and a couple of sessions for the Reverse Rett charity, which does a song request show.”

Rett Syndrome is a neurological condition which most often strikes previously healthy girls between their first and second birthday, leaving them with multiple disabilities and medical complexities for life.

Lorraine said: “My band has also done a couple of lockdown videos and we are making more. Each time we get to a certain number of views, Macmillan Cancer Support nurses get a donation.

“I’m taking part in the Musselburgh Festival virtual concert for Festival Week this month, as it has been cancelled in real life.

“The band and I are also considering outdoor shows as we think it would be a while before any pubs or venues would have entertainment on, but that all depends on the restrictions.”
