THE search for a new head of education for East Lothian has been launched, with the post advertised with a salary of just under £94,000.

Fiona Robertson left her role as head of education and children’s services at East Lothian Council towards the end of last year to take up a new post with neighbouring Midlothian Council.

The job of overseeing education services during the coronavirus crisis has been carried out by Lesley Brown, the local authority’s chief operating officer for education.

Advertising the post of head of education and children’s services, the council said: “In a period of significant change, development and local population growth, we are ambitious for the future of our special county and the residents we serve.

“Delivering the more prosperous, safe and sustainable East Lothian we all want to see includes helping our children achieve their fullest potential in life.

“We want to ensure they benefit from the best start in life, to enjoy being young, and to grow and develop in a safe, supportive environment.

“Our head of education and children’s services will play a vital leadership role in developing the services and partnerships that will enable children and young people to live safe, healthier, more active and independent lives.”

Monica Patterson, chief executive of the council, said the new appointment would play a vital leadership role in developing the services and partnerships that would enable children and young people to live safe, healthier, more active and independent lives.
