A CAMPAIGN promoting mental health in rural life has received a four-figure boost thanks to some active youngsters.

East Lothian Junior Agricultural Club (ELJAC) members, who have been completing virtual events during lockdown, took part in a sponsored walk, along with other clubs in the Lothian and Peeblesshire District.

The aim was for each club to walk 84 miles – the distance between all the clubs – finishing at Ingliston, where the Royal Highland Show had been due to have been held last week.

A number of ELJAC members smashed the target by walking 115 miles and cycling 125 miles.

The club was raising money for the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Club’s ‘Are ewe okay?’ campaign, which supports those living and working rurally and promotes mental health.

In total, the members of the district raised £1,200.

Callum Turnbull, ELJAC chairman, said: “The ‘Are ewe okay?’ campaign is a brilliant charity supporting those who might be in need.”

ELJAC is open to those aged 14 to 26, and members don’t have to be from a rural background.
