SOCIAL enterprise Heavy Sound CIC has moved into bigger premises to help support its expanding business.
The organisation, which champions community projects supporting the disadvantaged and young people, is moving into The Cockenzie Hub, formerly Cockenzie Business Centre, after taking on a three-year lease.
The move will allow Heavy Sound, previously based in Tranent, to continue its work, with recent projects including refitting a bus with the help of prisoners at HMP Edinburgh, in Saughton, to create a mobile community centre.
Heavy Sound uses rap, hip-hop, art and sports to work with young people from a variety of backgrounds.
Jordan Butler, CEO of the organisation, said: “For the last five years we have been based in Tranent and, as a growing organisation, have found it difficult to find the right space in East Lothian to make a longer-term move.
“The Cockenzie Hub is perfect for us; we will be able to provide a full range of services as well as develop new programmes which will service Cockenzie and the wider community.”
The business hub was bought by Allied Surveyors Scotland on behalf of East Lothian-based Moscar LLP last October.
Iain Mercer, of Allied Surveyors, welcomed the arrival of Heavy Sound to the hub.
He said: “This underlines the demand for accommodation from local companies seeking affordable business space.”
