ASPIRING young filmmakers are getting the opportunity to make and star in their own movie.

Dunbar-based Battery Theatre is creating a special project based around East Lothian’s Second World War evacuees.

Over two weeks, those taking part will be given filming challenges to tell the story of the evacuees.

Youngsters aged between eight and 12 will write and perform their own scripts, create their own costumes and set, as well as being their own camera crews.

Philip Kingscott, who co-runs Battery Theatre, told the Courier it had been a challenging year.

He said: “We'd had a Scottish tour planned of a play about John Muir and were hoping to once again work with The Ridge in Dunbar and make a play in a weekend with local kids in The Backlands gardens after the success of our project last year.

"Instead we've rescheduled our John Muir play to next year and had an online showing of a recording of our production last year ‘Mary, It began with a lass’.”
