IMPORTANT parts of the A1 are going to be closed tomorrow night (Wednesday) and Thursday night as essential road surface repairs are scheduled to take place.
The eastbound carriageway between the Gladsmuir junction and Oaktree junction, near Haddington, will be closed from 8pm tomorrow until 6am on Thursday (June 25) while work is carried out.
A diversion will be put in place and signposted, taking people via the B6363, A199 through Gladsmuir and then onto the B6471 into Haddington.
The following night (Thursday), the westbound carriageway will be closed from Gladsmuir to the Bankton junction, north of Tranent, from 8pm on Thursday night until 6am on Friday morning (June 26).
A diversion will take people on the A199, which passes through Tranent.
The works, which are described by operating company Amey as “essential”, are estimated to cost about £52,000.
Amey said the work will “improve safety and reduce overall maintenance costs by mitigating the need for further reactive repairs”.
Work is being completed by a contractor on behalf of Amey and Transport Scotland.
While the work is being carried out, physical distancing will be in place to ensure all staff on site remain safe.
Thorough risk assessments will be carried out and cleansing stations will also be put in place on site.
