TRANENT Amateur Swimming Club (TASC) has been given a boost after receiving a £600 grant to help make up for loss of income while pools are closed.

The club applied for financial support from the Swimathon Foundation’s Covid-19 Relief Fund.

With the coronavirus outbreak preventing the use of swimming pools, the club has been holding quizzes and games nights, as well as putting land training sessions out via social media.

The club’s Lyn Taylor said: “Due to Covid-19, our fundraising has had to be paused, as lots of our events are at galas and supermarkets, so the funding from Swimathon has been very welcome.

“It will kick start the funds for the next season when, hopefully, we will be back in the pool. On behalf of all our members, TASC would like to say a big thank you to Swimathon for this grant.”

This week, Swimathon Foundation announced £50,000 worth of grants had been awarded to more than 100 swimming clubs, swimming schools and independent aquatic organisations.

The foundation boosted its original commitment of £30,000 to £50,000, to cover grants for small swimming and aquatic organisations that have suffered financial hardship due to Covid-19.

Anthony Kendall OBE, Chair of the Swimathon Foundation said: “Swimming is a vital community activity and we are proud to play our part.”
