YOUNGSTERS getting ready to make the move from primary to secondary school are being given a tour of their new school. . . without leaving home.

Pupils are due to return to Preston Lodge High School on August 11, following the summer holidays and coronavirus lockdown.

Now, a short video has been created for those students leaving P7 behind and moving up to secondary school.

The video, included in the school’s electronic newsletter PLus, allows people to look behind the doors of the Prestonpans secondary school.

The newsletter notes: “As part of the launch of our P7 transition programme, we have provided all P7 students and their families with a virtual tour of our school building.

“Many thanks to Sarah Lusk [support for learning] for the great job that she has done.

“We thought that some of our older PLers might enjoy revisiting the school that we are all missing!”

Watching the video allows potential pupils the chance to get their bearings and find different departments.

Jonny Else, depute headteacher at the secondary school, told the Courier: “It is part of the transition programme because the pupils cannot physically be in the building just now.

“We are trying to get them more comfortable about the surroundings and a lot of the feedback we have had from P7 pupils is they want to know where everything is in the school.”

A further video highlighting different departments is also being created.

Mr Else added: “The building is probably more than double the size what they are used to and there are so many different rooms and departments.

“The video is to make them feel as relaxed as they can in this difficult time.”

He added it was not just for future pupils at the school. Preston Lodge alumni can also refamiliarise themselves with their former secondary school.
